News

Dear IPSFers, The first period of registration is coming to an end on February 28th, that means there are only 2 weeks left! If you want to be one of the early birds, you really need to speed up. The past few weeks we¡¦ve received several emails sent to info@ipsf2007.org. We¡¦ve listed some of the frequent-asked questions below :

QDo you provide non-accommodation package?
ANo, we do not have a non-accommodation package available. The 10 day congress is planned to be held at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. (The hotel information will be provided shortly)

QHow much does it cost for a single room for the accommodation?
AIf you wish to stay at a single room during the 10 day congress, we will be charging extra accommodation fee. The price is yet confirmed, and once we have the contract with the hotel we will inform you. If you plan to stay at a single room, please inform us once you have finished the registration.

QI might not be able to attend all 10 days of the congress, is there any program for the congress that is of a shorter duration and at a lower cost?
AThere are only two registration packages for this congress, so there would be neither shorter duration nor a lower cost. One is 10-day congress, and the other is 10-day congress plus post congress tour. (The earlier you register, the cheaper!)

QDo I have to be an IM of IPSF in order to register for IPSF congresses?
AIf you are an undergraduate pharmacy student, even if you are not a part of any organization, you are welcomed to register for the congress. However, if you have already graduated from school, you must become an IM in order to register for the congress.

QWhen will the congress start? (On web page it's written 6th of August, but on the posters it is printed the 7th of August)
AThe RC would like to apologize for the mistake. ¡§Day 0¡¨ (Aug 6th) is the arrival date of all delegates. When printing the posters we accidentally forgot to count the date from Day 0. The congress starts on August 6th, we will be having some interviews, check-ins, and also a welcome party.

QCan I get the invitation letter in advance (before fully completed the registration procedure)?
AAccording to our registration procedure, every participant should transfer the fee to us, and then fill out the registration form online. After we confirm all of this, we'll send invitation letter to the participant to help get visa. If you wish to receive the invitation letter before registration, please write to info@ipsf2007.org, and tell us the purpose of this letter.

QAre the dates for the Scientific Symposium and Educational Forum fixed? Is it possible to register for only the 2-day program alone and not for the entire event?
AThe symposium and forum will be held on August 11th and 12th (day 5 and day 6, Saturday and Sunday). The dates are fixed. We do not provide a symposium package for the foreign students.

Some delegates transferred the fee and submitted the registration form online, but the RC received only one (the fee or the form), or even none. We will send you the confirmation letter only when we have received both the fee and the form. Usually it takes less than a week for the bank to confirm the fee with the RC. If you believe you¡¦ve completed the whole procedure, and you haven¡¦t received any confirmation letter within 2 weeks, please write to info@ipsf2007.org
If you did not transfer the fee on your own (if done by a family member or a friend), please send us an extra email informing who you are and the name of the transferor. Please accept or apology on the inconvenience. We hope to see you this summer in Taiwan.

About LANDING VISA¡K
Visa information is in our web site http://www.ipsf2007.org/.
Welcome to visit and get information you need. Most nations are Visa-Exempt Entry, means you can come in Taiwan without preparing visa.
Other countries need to apply visa at our Taiwan (ROC) embassy in your country.
Still some other countries don¡¦t have our embassy inside your country, you might travel to those countries which our embassy located in. As the rule, it should be done like this, but we know it¡¦s really inconvenient. We actually could help participants in such condition applying landing visa, so you don¡¦t have to go to anywhere. Things you need to do are listed on landing-visa table of visa application section in our web site. In the end, the risk of landing visa is that you might get it at the very end until you arrive at our airport.
We won¡¦t let visa be your problem to come to Taiwan, so please don¡¦t hesitate to register. Welcome sincerely.

Entertainment

Taiwan has many unique traditions and customs in addition to Chinese ones that we have preserved for many centuries. Here are some of the traditional New Years festivals that give you a glimpse into our culture.

Chinese New Year¡¦s Eve
Chinese New Year is the most important holiday of our year. Families visit relatives and gather together to celebrate. There are many legends about the Chinese New Year. Many families stay up late on New Years Eve because long time ago, it was told that gods in Heaven spread gold on New Years Eve and people kept awake with their door closed to catch the gold.
The New Years dinner is also full of symbolic meanings, such as the Chinese dumplings that imply wealth (it is shaped as an ancient Chinese gold ingots). Everyone, sometimes even kids, drinks a little Jiu (usually liquor), which symbolizes longevity since Jiu has the same pronunciation as longevity in Chinese.

Chinese New Year
If you ever visit Taiwan during the Chinese New Year, you would find people congratulating everyone from family members to strangers on the streets on New Years day.
According to the legend, the celebration of Chinese New Year originally began due to a man-eating beast from the mountains called Nian. Nina came out to eat people on each year, but people learned that it was sensitive to loud noises and the color red, so they scared it away with explosions, fireworks, and by using lots of red. The term "Guo Nian", which means to celebrate the new year, literally means to "pass (or survive) the beast Nian¡¨.

Chinese Lantern Festival (Yuanxiao Festival)
Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the new Chinese year to conclude the celebration of the New Year. On the night of the lantern festival, people go out at night carrying lanterns under full moon to watch lion or dragon dancing, play Chinese riddles and games, and light firecrackers.
Yuanxiao (glutinous rice ball) is a special food eaten on the day of the lantern festival. It is believed that Yuanxiao is named after a palace maid, Yuanxiao, of Emperor Wu Di of the Han Dynasty. Yuanxiao is a sweet dumpling, made with sticky rice flour and filled with a variety of sweet stuffing. The festival shares its name with the dumpling. The roundness and the sweetness of Yuanxiao symbolizes family unity, completeness, and happiness.

Lantern Festival in Taipei:
Every year many lanterns of all shapes and sizes are built for the festival. Every city in Taiwan usually builds a huge lantern, and this was the main lantern in Taipei last year.
